(1st April) Today saw the purchase of the book of inspiration vol 2, from the makers of computer arts. Love this book, it has been a great visual inspiration to my recent work.

I have the new Computer Arts Project – The logo design bible issue 148
Posted: April 25, 2011 in Uncategorized(19th April) Today at 10.00am I am going to the Coalters estate agency for a briefing from Rueben Barrett, who is the MD at the company. The briefing started with a handout of all the materials the company supply to its clients, including a business card, letterhead and compliments slip, a York map and newsletter. Rueben then gave an overall briefing of the actual company and how the company had evolved. Because I was thinking of making this my FMP, I was keen to ask him questions about other aspects of the company like the website the logo design and the whole branding of the company. Rueben talked through the website and the things he didn’t like about it. He mentioned certain links taking him to other areas of the website which he wasn’t happy with and also banners on the right of the webpages. Coalters are a quite up to date company with all their business stationary recently designed, so this wasn’t really an aspect of the business that needs a change. Their website looks quite up to date, but what reuben did say about what he likes to do is refresh the companies image often to keep people interested. So I think my FMP will be a refresh of the company rather than change of identity. Once i had talked about the FMP, Reuben talked about the actual brief he set, which is to design the wrap for their company cars. The design for the most recent car which was wrapped in 2009 is a racing car with a racing theme. Reuben pointed out that a theme isn’t neccessary for the design, but if I wanted to use one I could. Their was also no limit on colours either, just as long as the car stands out and turns heads. The design just has to be original. The only thing that was a concern was maybe the price, the company is small and would prefer to keep the cost low, but once the designs are done, if it is an expensive and complicated design, but does turns heads and is a really unique design, decisions will be made and the company may still go with it. So really their are no limitations on it…
In the easter holidays I have been extra busy putting my Portfolio together. The portfolio will be displayed as a A4 booklet, with each project displayed over 2 pages. Their will be small description of the brief and a short design report. Each project will show the design in many different applications. ie if its a logo I will display the logo on business stationary or maybe on a website.
(15th April) Today I found out that the company which I did some freelance work for, which was more like a crowd sourcing project had picked the winning design. I found this out by typing the name Glaxio into Google which brought up the facebook page. I am a bit annoyed I had to find out this way, as I spent quite a bit of time on my design which I entered and I had no email back, no thanks and no email telling me a logo has been picked! Shocking! To be honest my first impressions of the winning design are very negative. (and this is not sour grapes), It looks to me very amaturish, not too sure what the font is, but looks like a dafont shocker! The main G, located in the red box, has that been stretched?? The rounded corners of the G don’t sit right with the rounded corners of the box, It looks wierd! What a crap company this is…. very unprofessional if you ask me!
(14th April) Today I applied for the graphic design position at Events prop hire. I sent my CV and a cover letter to Rosie, so hopefully will here something soon from that. fingers crossed.
(11th april) Today I received an email from Monica at Coalters about dates for a briefing. Rueben the MD of Coalters, was available the 18th-19th April for a briefing. Me and James have been in contact and we are booked in for Tuesday 19th April at 10 oclock. Can’t wait.
(7th April) Pat from college emailed today forwarding our details to the Monica, who works at coalters. Me and James both decided that we would have a briefing form the companies MD, so that we can get the information regarding the project first hand. I have also decided that I will use this project as my FMP. I will also have to add in other aspects from the coalters brand into the project to make it a suitable challenge.
