(19th April) Today at 10.00am I am going to the Coalters estate agency for a briefing from Rueben Barrett, who is the MD at the company. The briefing started with a handout of all the materials the company supply to its clients, including a business card, letterhead and compliments slip, a York map and newsletter. Rueben then gave an overall briefing of the actual company and how the company had evolved. Because I was thinking of making this my FMP, I was keen to ask him questions about other aspects of the company like the website the logo design and the whole branding of the company. Rueben talked through the website and the things he didn’t like about it. He mentioned certain links taking him to other areas of the website which he wasn’t happy with and also banners on the right of the webpages. Coalters are a quite up to date company with all their business stationary recently designed, so this wasn’t really an aspect of the business that needs a change. Their website looks quite up to date, but what reuben did say about what he likes to do is refresh the companies image often to keep people interested. So I think my FMP will be a refresh of the company rather than change of identity. Once i had talked about the FMP, Reuben talked about the actual brief he set, which is to design the wrap for their company cars. The design for the most recent car which was wrapped in 2009 is a racing car with a racing theme. Reuben pointed out that a theme isn’t neccessary for the design, but if I wanted to use one I could. Their was also no limit on colours either, just as long as the car stands out and turns heads. The design just has to be original. The only thing that was a concern was maybe the price, the company is small and would prefer to keep the cost low, but once the designs are done, if it is an expensive and complicated design, but does turns heads and is a really unique design, decisions will be made and the company may still go with it. So really their are no limitations on it…
